AT THE BEACH<\/strong><\/p>\n

The waves slobbered over us \u2013
\nthrusting foamy fingers into
\nevery orifice they could. I
\nfind it strange that no one
\nhas spoken much about the
\ndepravity of water. How
\ndarkness bends to its lascivious
\nwords. O to be like Jonah
\nswallowed whole by a whale,
\nor to sit like Hart Crane
\nat the bottom of the ocean
\nsmoking a cigarette afterward.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

HELLO<\/strong><\/p>\n

What a cooling canopy —
\nlatticework of leaves.\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

What a panoply of perspectives
\nget folded into that airy confection
\nknown as a park.\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Flowers and hedges
\npush and pull\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

but mustn\u2019t limit the way we see.
\nNo, in this of all places, a certain
\ncare-less-ed-ness is necessary\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

if we are to wander unobstructed
\nonto the past\u2019s curved paths,\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

lean upon its literary lampposts,<\/p>\n

and nod our wordless hello
\nto the tall, distinguished trees.<\/p>\n

I remember when people
\nused their hands to gesture,<\/p>\n

and would meet each other\u2019s eyes
\nwith curiosity or annoyance,
\nbut now everyone looks down,
\nstudying their palms intently.<\/p>\n

A list of portraits done today might be:\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Old Man with Phone
\nProfessional Woman with phone
\nBuff Body Builder with Phone
\nPaint Spattered Artist with Phone
\nMother and Child, Each with Phone<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

THE GOD MOLECULE<\/strong><\/p>\n

scientists have discovered
\nis like a thickening agent<\/p>\n

added to electrical soup.
\nFrom it came all manner<\/p>\n

of matter in infinite sizes,
\nshapes, and colors. In malls<\/p>\n

across the multi-verse
\nour planet is known to have<\/p>\n

the best shopping around.
\nGod appears in myriad forms,<\/p>\n

but does s\/he really care
\nwhat story we buy into?<\/p>\n

Poised between chaos and
\nintelligent design, it turns<\/p>\n

out the molecule could
\nsupport either theory.<\/p>\n

God\u2019s own benevolent
